Traveling Today? Check Out These Comfy-Cute Outfit Ideas

Celebs might travel in leather pants and sky-high stilettos, but what regular person wants to be gussied up for a day of sitting, standing, and waiting? Here, three comfortable yet chic ensembles that you'll actually want to travel in.

If you're traveling by car: Sienna Miller always looks fab. I mean, check out how she rocks those sweatpants! I personally love dressing up comfy clothes, and Sienna's perfected the trend by throwing on a luxe knit sweater, bright ballet flats and toting a chic bag: a totally road trip-ready outfit!
dream wedding dress
If you're traveling by train: Train rides always feel so glam and retro. Take a cue from the uber gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whitely and layer up with your favorite sleek black pieces. Boots with a little stacked heel will lengthen your legs, and don't forget your sunnies! Bonus points for a fedora, which will cover up any post-nap stray hairs.

If you're traveling by plane: Stretchy skinny jeans + layers + scarf+ hat = recipe for airplane outfit success. That winning combo never fails, especially with cool colorful jeans and quirky accessories as seen on the beautiful Jessica Alba. Try denim in a hue like burgundy or royal blue, and stick to greys and black for the rest. You'll be flyin' in style.
What do you like to wear while traveling? Do you have any necessities? Let me know in the comments!

10 Incredibly Sexy Things Women Have No Idea They’re Doing

There are so many lists and essays out there that are vague spin-off’s of “How to appear sexy to guys.” (And, lord knows, plenty of the inverse.)
But isn’t it almost always the things people do naturally, things they have no idea they’re even doing, that end up being the most alluring? (See: my last girlfriend’s penchant for slow-dancing together in very public places. To this day, gaaaaaaah.)
couple-with-champagne-on-red-couch
In that spirit, here are some sexy things that require zero practice, because you’re already doing them: wedding dress up ,
1. Holding eye contact that extra second
2. Buying a round of drinks for the group
3. Laughing heartily, not just elegantly
4. Asking people the last good book they read
5. Saying exactly what she wants to do next on a date—even if he already had something else planned
6. That thing where a thick strand of hair falls over one eye, and she doesn’t move it right away
7. Getting excited just talking about her work
8. Making fun of passersby
9. Making friends with strangers
10. Calling out things that are boring, instead of feigning interest in them

5 Beauty Lessons We Learned This Year From Kristen Stewart

think it's safe to say Kristen Stewart learned a lot this year, but we learned a lot about makeup andhair by watching her go through all the ups and downs. Here's what she taught us.
kristen-stewart-lessons
Lesson 1: You know how everyone says you shouldn't wear a whole bunch of bold makeup colors at once? Screw 'em. They don't know what they're talking about. Kristen rocked this look.
Lesson 2: Sometimes looking reptilian is kinda hot. (See her eye makeup here to understand what I mean.)dream wedding dress ,
Lesson 3: When you've kiiiiiiinda messed up and everyone knows it, that's the time to go for really great, dramatic hair. It distracts people.
Lesson 4: Even if you have naturally drowsy-looking lids, an intensely smoky eye can work. You just have to commit and go bold.
What will 2013 have in store for Kristen? Well, no vampire stuff, since the Twilight movies are over. But I'm sure there will be a lot more to watch and learn from her.

In Memoriam: The Inspiring Women We Lost in 2012

new year is almost here. As we flip the calendar, we’ll move on, but these are some of theinspiring women we won’t forget.
sarah-burke
Sarah Burke (September 3, 1982-January 19, 2012): A Canadian professional skier and the pioneer of the superpipe event, who died in an accident while training for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Etta James (January 25, 1938-January 20, 2012): One of the greatest blues singers of all time, she crooned the timeless ballads “At Last” and “Sunday Kind of Love.”
whitney-houston-1980s

Whitney Houston (August 9, 1963-February 11, 2012): She’s the reason we were belting “I Will Always Love You” at the top of our lungs in the shower, and we all cried the day we found out she died from drug use in a Beverly Hills hotel. We’ll always feel the heat with somebody in her memory.

Nora Ephron (May 19, 1941-June 26, 2012): Wry and observant playwright, screenwriter, novelist, and film director Ephron wrote everything you love—and said everything you quote.

Helen Gurley Brown (February 18, 1922-August 13, 2012): The former editor-in-chief ofCosmopolitan and author of Sex and the Single Girl. “A woman's right to own sex as a vital, normal, natural part of her life, was, at one point, ground that needed to be broken,” said Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive, “and she broke it.”
Sally Ride (May 26, 1951-July 23, 2012): A physicist and astronaut, Ride was the first U.S. woman in space.

Phyllis Diller (July 17, 1917-August 20, 2012): The comedian and actress was a barrier-smashing funny lady who was always the grandma we wanted to have. But let’s admit it—then we’d be totally jealous that our grandma was way cooler than us.
Kitty Wells (August 30, 1919-July 16, 2012): The first-ever woman to top the country charts with her song “It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels”—she’s a name Carrie and Miranda and Taylor will always remember.

Fashion Faceoff: Anne Hathaway vs. Salma Hayek in Stella McCartney

anne-hathaway-stella-mccartney
Back in July, Anne Hathaway was on an LBD hot streak while promoting The Dark Knight Rises. She wore this Stella McCartney fringed dress to visit David Letterman, finishing things off simply with a pair of black pumps and sunnies.
salma-hayek-stella-mccartney
At the British Fashion Awards just last month, Salma Hayek wore the same dress (to honor Stella, who was named Designer of the Year!). She also wore black pumps, but added a delicate necklace and an Audrey Hepburn-esque beauty routine.
So, who do you gals think wore this dress better? Cast your votes now, then discuss!

"It brings me great sadness to say that Jason and I are separating. This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. "We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority. This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us," Frankel said in a statement Sunday to People.
Bethenny also addressed the split on Twitter:

Yay for lazy hair! It'll be a Christmas miracle if I manage to wear my hair down even one day while visiting my parents in Maine--it's just too flat and static-y in this cold.

5 Rules for Meeting The Parents During The Holidays

Don't stress about meeting your S.O.'s parents over the holidays, Follow these rules, and you'll be golden. Pinky promise.
parents-couple
1. Bring a Gift
Start with asking your S.O. what you can bring. If he or she says “Oh, you don’t have to bring anything!”, bring something anyway. Flowers. A box of chocolates. A bottle of wine. Something specific from your hometown or wherever you’re coming from. His or her family will definitely appreciate the gesture.
2. Dress Your Best!
You don’t have to go out of your way to wear a suit if you’re more of a ripped t-shirt and jeans kind of guy, or heels if you live your life in flats. But when meeting the parents it’s important to present the absolute best version of yourself, not because you need them to validate your appearance but because dressing up in order to meet someone is a sign of respect: it shows that you care enough about making a good impression to put in effort. Parents will definitely appreciate this.
3. Let Your Significant Other Take The Lead, re: Physical Affection
All families are different in terms of boundaries and PDA. If your boyfriend or girlfriend holds your hand, hugs you, or kisses you in front of his or her parents, then you can go ahead and return the gestures. But don’t go in for a kiss in front of the folks without getting the OK.
4. Stay on Neutral Topics
Ask your partner beforehand what his or her parents like to take about, and then stick to those subjects.
Anything that you wouldn’t feel comfortable talking about on a first date should definitely be avoided when meeting parents. Anna Post, grand-daughter of etiquette guru Emily Post, suggests:
“You definitely do want to stay away from the big four: stay away from money, stay away from politics, stay away from religion, and stay away from sex. Those four topics can become very personal, very heated, and very uncomfortable. It’s best to feel out who this person is and what they’re like before you start broaching these topics.”
5. Pitch In
Your significant other’s parents will want to see that you’re a thoughtful and generous person. An easy way to prove this is to help with the festivities: setting the table, washing the dishes, clearing away wrapping paper, and pitching in with any little task that needs to be done.
As Mindy Kaling writes in her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?:
“Never ask when you’re at somebody’s house if you can pitch in and help. You just start helping, ’cause no hostess is ever gonna be like, “Yes, I would love help, just do the dishes.” I think it shows that you’re well raised if you just start.”

So wise. What other rules do you follow when you go over your S.O.'s parents' house? Anything we missed?

Holiday Cards That a Single Girl Might Send

Oh, the holiday photo card. Usually features pictures of: gorgeously squishy new babies, family vacations, or smiling couples in an embrace. Never seems to feature: single people.
Not that singles can’t send a card, of course, but we tend to go for the generic greeting variety rather than the personal photo kind. But hey, single ladies love the holidays too! And we're just as cute as all the other people whose pictures we're hanging on our refrigerators, right?
To blaze the trail for all you single ladies who don’t want to be left out of the tradition of sending your cutest photo to your nearest and dearest for the holidays, I came up with a few options of my own. Please feel free to copy at the risk of your grandmother's disapproval.
A snapshot of you and your bestie/roommate (city full of Santas optional). Because hey, she’s family toyou!
holiday-card-friends
So you don’t have a real boyfriend. You have a dream guy, and if your dreams can't come true at the holidays, when can they?
holiday-card-taylor-lautner
Or hey, why not just use a photo of you and all the ones you love? Those who have been there for you all year, in good times and in bad?
holiday-card-spirits
Heh-heh. And yes, I did just happen to have a picture of me with a life-sized Taylor Lautner cardboard cutout. That's just the kind of girl I am.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! Have a safe and happy celebration!
Do you send a holiday photo card? Can anyone send one or is it just people with kids because really, is there anything cuter than babies in Santa hats? And is everyone excited for Christmas tomorrow?

They’re your guests’ first taste of the celebration to come—and you want them to be as unique and creative as you are. From handcrafted origami cranes and felt pennants to digital DIY projects, we’ve got all the tips and inspiration you’re looking for.
But before we show you a few fabulous options, here are FAQs about save-the-dates...
Do you have to send save-the-dates?
Nope. But we recommend you do for a few reasons: 1) Your friends and family will appreciate the heads-up. 2) You’re more likely to have first dibs on guests who know other brides getting married on the same day. 3) They’re a great way to get everyone excited about your wedding—and to get your own creativity flowing early in the planning process!
When do you send them?
That depends, says stationer Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York. If you are throwing a destination wedding or getting married on a major holiday, you should give guests extra notice by sending your save-the-dates out nine months to a year in advance. Otherwise, mail them six to nine months before your wedding date.
Whom do you send them to?
Anyone you’re sure you’re going to invite. Do not mail cards to guests on your B-list: Once they receive a save-the-date, you’re obligated to send them an obligation, too.
Is it acceptable to send electronic save-the-dates?
Absolutely. Many of the options available today are super-chic. One caveat: For tech-challenged guests—i.e., Grandma—you’ll need to follow up with a phone call.
Do you need to send invitations, too?
Yes. Invites should go out about two months before your big day and should contain specific details (the ceremony and reception sites, RSVP cards) that aren’t usually part of save-the-dates. That said, some guests may think your save-the-dates are invites; avoid confusion by printing “Invitation to follow” on your initial card.

Senator Barbara Boxer On Women on the Hill, Gun Control, VAWA, the Fiscal Cliff, and, Yes, a Bigger Ladies' Room

Senator Barbara Boxer says that from day to day she goes back and forth between feeling optimistic and pessimistic about the fiscal cliff prognosis. So perhaps speaking out of a frustration so many of us share, she tells Glamour: "I will go out on a limb and say if the women were in charge, this thing would be fixed in five minutes. We know how to compromise and how to set our egos aside. It’s more part of our DNA."
barbara-boxer-barack-obama
When we got the California Democrat on the phone and started talking about how the Senate has grown when she first entered the chamber from six women to a record 20 after last month's elections, she interrupted to say that the historic high looks like it will rise to 21. She pointed out that the late Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii requested before his death on Monday that Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D, HI-1) be named to succeed him. That decision is up to the governor of Hawaii, but Boxer expects that now women will make up almost a third of the Democratic Senate caucus.
Boxer took her seat in the Senate in 1993 after serving 10 years in the House. She currently is the Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. Although she's excited about the growing number of women, she says, "The one problem I see is the imbalance. We will have four Republican women and probably 17 Democratic women. We need more Republican women. We really do."
And there's something else the women now need, she says: "A bigger restroom." The current two-stall restroom off the Senate floor is leading to traffic jams and Boxer says they are working on getting it expanded. "All we ask for is equity with the men." She says they'll also need more room when they welcome the new members to the monthly bipartisan dinners of women senators started years back by Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX). "We'll need a bigger table."
It’s a table Boxer hopes will continue to expand--and one at which she hopes you may join her one day. “It’s so important for our young girls see that their options are many including running for the highest offices in the land. That’s very important.”
“It’s not that men are bad or women are better,” Boxer says. “That’s not it. It’s that we come to the table with different backgrounds, different experiences, and it’s important that we’re in the mix of different problems that we face and we see women face.”
One of those problems, of course, is intimate partner violence. Reauthorization the Violence Against Women Act, however, remains mired in partisan gridlock over a push by Democrats to expand its coverage on several fronts including protection for Indian tribes and battered illegal immigrants. The Senate approved the expansion but House Republicans opposed it. Boxer joined other Democratic women senators earlier this week to call on the House leadership to pass VAWA.
“Oh my gosh, I cannot believe it,” Boxer tells Glamour. “We’ve always passed the Violence Against Women Act without a problem. This year we added folks who had been left out, and the House of Representatives, the Republicans over there...This is one easy way to show us that they are changing and got the message. They still haven’t done that but I’m always ever hopeful.”
Boxer also sounds optimistic about the new push for gun control following last week’s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and she introduced legislation yesterday focusing on school safety.
“A lot of it has to do with the gun lobby, if they are sincere about wanting to change their hard line against any sensible gun law,” she says when asked about the chances for new legislation. “If they don’t move forward, then it depends on how much this incident touched all of my colleagues. And I have to say a lot who did not speak out before are beginning to speak out. There are 300 million weapons in America, almost one weapon for every individual and there is almost no realistic chance that that is going to be lowered so in the meantime while we put in some common sense laws such as banning high capacity clips and weapons of war. I am concentrating my efforts on supporting all of that plus doing the school safety piece which would allow for more protection of our children at school. We still have to keep our schools safe and I’m working on ways we can maximize safety at school so when you drop off your child you are not worried if you will ever see them again."

Guess Which Big Relationship Step Taylor Swift and Harry Styles Already Took! (Is Anyone Surprised? I’m Not.)

taylor-swift-harry-styles
Comparing celebrity relationships to normal people relationships is basically like comparing dog years to human years. A celeb relationship of a month is equivalent to a normal people relationship of at least a year.
Which is why it’s unsurprising that Taylor Swift and Harry Styles have already progressed to meeting each other’s moms! I think they’ve been dating for about five minutes (OK, more like a couple months), but it’s already meet the family time. Evidently, Taylor met Harry’s mum while on a trip to the UK earlier this month, and now that they’re back in Los Angeles, the twosome was spotted hanging out at Taylor’s house with her mama.
Sigh, I’m a Taylor fan so I only wish her the best but I do wish she’d slow things down once in a while. I can understand her impulsive young love habits, I just don’t want to see her get her heart broken again. Like, ever.
How soon would you introduce your mom to a new guy? Do you think this is too fast or just fine?

Katrina Bowden Talks Last Night's 30 Rock Wrap Party and the Last-Day Moment That Made Her Cry (Plus a Cast Pic From the Party That's Got Us a Little Teary, Too)

We started our long, teary farewell to 30 Rock earlier this week when Anna chatted with the lovely Jane Krakowski. Today--just hours after the cast's wrap-party ended--we caught up with Katrina Bowden, aka office-hottie Cerie, to hear all about the soiree and her on-set memories. (It makes sense to me that Jane went first, since Jenna would totally have it in her contract that Cerie could NOT be interviewed before her by any women's outlets.) Anyway, Katrina was even enough of a doll to put together a lil' photo diary for us! But first, some stories.
Thanks so much for talking this morning--I'm sure it was a late night.
Katrina: I'm still tired.
I love this pic of all of you on the blue carpet.

30-rock-wrap-party
Katrina: That was one of my favorite moments, getting to take a couple shots together. It's the end of an era for all of us. We're like a family.
I have literally never seen Judah Friedlander (aka Frank) so well-groomed.
Katrina: Oh my gosh, so many people are commenting on that! Like, "He has hair!"
With so much of 30 Rock set in the writers' room, that set must have felt like a big clubhouse. What was it like?
Katrina: On set, you end up having so much downtime. And with this group of people it's the best downtime you could ever have. We'd talk about old movies. There were a lot of improv bits. If Tracy Morgan was in the scene, he would just be telling dirty jokes between takes, trying to make everyone feel as uncomfortable as possible. But that only worked half the time, because after a while we were onto him.
If that's just workday fun, I'd imagine the party last night was a blast.
Katrina: We had this great photo booth set up. They recreated Jack Donaghy's office, and had Judah's hats and glasses, and funny little signs with 30 Rock sayings. I had a great time in there. Judah also spent quite some time in the photo booth. I heard they had a hard time getting him out of there.

katrina-bowden-fives
Was everyone going hard, or was it that kind of emotional, graduation-exhaustion vibe?
Katrina: No one crazy thing happened, at least when I was there--but it was surreal for all of us. There were a lot of "can't believe this is it" faces going on.
Who are your closest friends from the show?
Katrina: Jack McBrayer and Keith Powell (Toofer) are like brothers to me. Judah as well.
Which is funny, because they always had to sorta leer at you on the show.
Katrina: Oh my God, I know. Season one, [Cerie] had the craziest outfits. There was an episode where I wore about eight outfits--one I think was just some underwear and a poncho. I talked to the guys about it [recently] and they were like, "You have no idea how uncomfortable that was for all of us, to pretend to be staring at you."

katrina-bowden-blue-carpet
Speaking of everyone staring at you--you're a bride-to-be. Have you (and fiance, musician Ben Jorgenson) set a date yet?
Katrina: No date yet, but I'm going to do some planning over the holidays. It's a lot!

tina-red-carpet
When 30 Rock began, you were 17. What was it like, in your first job, to get to work with someone like Tina Fey for six years?
Katrina: She's been such a good role model to me. She's so grounded and so real--she's so level-headed even though she's so talented. I'll never forget the speech she gave on the last day on set. She thanked everyone and told us she'll never have a better cast or crew. She talked about watching all of us grow up, and grow up together. I don't think there was one person in the room who wasn't crying.
What will you miss most about 30 Rock?
